Our customer had a vintage Chevrolet for summer cruising – but it was missing a cool, wooden, weather-resistant roof rack. He had a tentative idea for the roof rack in mind, as well as wood materials chosen for it. So we finalised the draft with exact measurements and added some extra flavor with very traditional dovetail joints.

The outer rim of the roof rack is doussie wood and the laths were made from oak. Those types of wood are weather-resistant even without any treatment, but to increase the weather-resistance and to achieve the desired warm tone, we applied a coating of oil.

The simplistic design of the frame gives the floor to the detailed dovetail joints. This kind of traditional joinery really challenges a modern woodworker and requires very detailed work to make them durable – so it is definitely something that we want to do 🙂

The customer got a truly unique roof rack for carrying his SUP board – and there surely won’t be a similar one anywhere in the world!
